Attention all taxpayers and temporary residents in Canada
The Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson, Mr. François Boileau, has taken action to address delays in Canada child benefit (CCB) payments for temporary residents.
Temporary residents, including visitors, students, workers, and permit holders, are an integral part of Canada’s diverse community. However, some temporary residents have faced challenges in receiving their entitled CCB payments in a timely manner.
The Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsperson (OTO) has launched a systemic examination into the root causes of these delays. Despite being eligible for CCB after 19 months of continuous residency in Canada, some temporary residents have experienced unnecessary interruptions in their payments.
This examination aims to identify and rectify any systemic issues that may hinder eligible temporary residents from accessing the CCB they are entitled to. It underscores the importance of fairness and equity in Canada’s tax and benefit systems, ensuring that all taxpayers, regardless of their residency status, receive the support they deserve.
As the OTO delves into this matter, taxpayers and temporary residents are encouraged to report any concerns or experiences related to CCB delays. Your feedback will play a crucial role in shaping the Ombudsperson’s investigation and potential solutions.
Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this examination and continue to advocate for a fair and efficient tax and benefit system for all residents of Canada. Together, we can work towards a more inclusive and supportive society.
